Counting down “The 25 Days of Husky Christmas”…..

“DubLife” is doing its third consecutive season of the annual Holiday countdown to Christmas highlighting special moments in Husky Athletics history. Our segment is meant to bring positive thoughts of our favorite university during a time of the year where thanks and reflection are at the forefront of our minds. This year’s version will feature 25 random and exciting moments, in no particular order or ranking of importance.

6 DAYS ‘TIL CHRISTMAS

The 1960 Washington Huskies Football team, ranked #6, won one of its most memorable bowl games when it defeated top-ranked Minnesota 17-7 in the 1961 Rose Bowl game.

Washington dominated the first half, scoring all 17 points. On defense, the Huskies picked off Gophers quarterback Sandy Stephens three times.

Husky MVP Bob Schloredt completed only two of four passes for 16 yards (no interceptions) but was the game’s leading rusher with 68 yards on five carries.

What makes this game special is the fact that this is the only time the Husky Football program has ever beat the #1 team in the country in a bowl game.

In a moment for the ages at halftime, a prank provided for some entertainment, that has gone down in Rose Bowl history as well-orchestrated joke.

A card stunt design displayed “CALTECH” instead of “HUSKIES” in big block letters on a white background. The announcers and the stadium fell silent for several moments before breaking into laughter.
