Counting down “The 25 Days of Husky Christmas”…..
“DubLife” is doing its second season of the annual Holiday countdown to Christmas highlighting special moments and statistics in Husky Athletics history. Our segment is meant to bring positive thoughts of our favorite university during a time of the year where thanks and reflection is at the forefront of our minds.
6 DAYS ‘TIL CHRISTMAS
The number 6 represents the number of seasons that Washington head coach Chris Petersen coached the Washington Huskies Football program.
On December 2, 2019, Petersen stepped down as head football coach, citing a need “to get rested, to get recharged, and to get redirected.”
Back in 2013, the University of Washington hired Petersen away from Boise State, as the winningest active coach in college football at the time.
During his time at Washington, Petersen elevated the football program to new heights and returned it to national prominence along the way.
Making it to the program’s first ever College Football Playoff appearance, two Pac-12 Championships, three consecutive 10+ seasons, three consecutive New Years Six Bowls and a 6-0 Apple Cup Record, for starters.
Nicknamed “Elite Pete” because he is the entire package as a coach. One of the most successful coaches in NCAA history with wins. He graduated his players, is known for his affinity for athletics, and he is a “Father Figure” and “Mentor” to all of his players.
Ironically, Petersen’s last game will be the 2019 Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl, which matches him up against his former team in the Boise State Broncos.
