Counting down “The 25 Days of Husky Christmas”…..
“DubLife” is doing its third consecutive season of the annual Holiday countdown to Christmas highlighting special moments in Husky Athletics history. Our segment is meant to bring positive thoughts of our favorite university during a time of the year where thanks and reflection are at the forefront of our minds. This year’s version will feature 25 random and exciting moments, in no particular order or ranking of importance.
5 DAYS ‘TIL CHRISTMAS
The 2009 Washington Huskies Football team pulled off one the most improbable comebacks in program history, with a little good fortune from a shoe.
Arizona was leading by a score of 33-21 with 4:22 left in the game and well in control of victory, but then the ball would bounce in the Huskies favor.
Washington, who hadn’t played well for most of the second half, scored two touchdowns in 18 seconds to pull out the miraculous 36-33 win against the Arizona Wildcats.
The final score came when Husky LB Mason Foster plucked a ball that bounced first off the left hand of Arizona receiver Delashaun Dean, and then off his left foot and returned it 37 yards for a touchdown with 2:37 remaining.
A true “Miracle on Montlake” for the Huskies and the “Agony of Da Feet” for the Wildcats was the result of an “Immaculate Interception”.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a game that crazy,” Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian said. “I mean an interception off a guy’s foot returned for a touchdown? I don’t think so.”
