“The 25 Days Of Husky Christmas” – 5 Days ‘Til

Counting down “The 25 Days of Husky Christmas”…..

“DubLife” is doing its second season of the annual Holiday countdown to Christmas highlighting special moments and statistics in Husky Athletics history.  Our segment is meant to bring positive thoughts of our favorite university during a time of the year where thanks and reflection is at the forefront of our minds.

5 DAYS ‘TIL CHRISTMAS

The number 5 represents the national ranking of the Miami Hurricanes in 1994, when they were defeated 38-20 by the #17 Washington Huskies.

Back on September 24, 1994, the Huskies traveled to the Miami Orange Bowl stadium to take on the Hurricanes, who held a 58 home game winning streak.

The victory is one of the most memorable moments in Husky Football history and was dubbed the famous “Whammy in Miami.”

At halftime, the Huskies were trailing Miami 14-3 and then flipped the switch in the second half, by scoring 22 points in five minutes.

Word got out among the Huskies that Miami Coach Dennis Erickson had jokingly suggested the losers of this game relinquish their national championship rings from 1991.

“Take the rings back,” safety Lawyer Milloy shouted into the air as he walked off the field.
