“DubLife” is doing its third consecutive season of the annual Holiday countdown to Christmas highlighting special moments in Husky Athletics history. Our segment is meant to bring positive thoughts of our favorite university during a time of the year where thanks and reflection are at the forefront of our minds. This year’s version will feature 25 random and exciting moments, in no particular order or ranking of importance.
22 DAYS ‘TIL CHRISTMAS
In 1992, during the very first night game in Husky Stadium history, the #2 ranked Huskies defeated the #12 Cornhuskers to move up in the polls and become the #1 team in the nation.
This game was historic on so many levels, not only with Husky Stadium being under the lights, but the crowd itself also set an incredible record of its own.
On that night, the game recorded the loudest college football game in history, with a decibel reading of 133.6. Husky Stadium was literally shaking from the noise.
UW strong safety Tommie Smith blindsided Grant 8 yards deep in the end zone, on a blitz for a safety and a 2-0 Husky lead, with 3:14 left in the first quarter. It was one of the biggest sack highlights in Husky history.
Due to setting the record, playing their first night game in Husky Stadium, and rising to #1 in the nation after the win, it is regarded as one of the greatest games in Husky history.
