“The 25 Days Of Husky Christmas” – 2 Days ‘Til

Counting down “The 25 Days of Husky Christmas”…..

“DubLife” is doing its third consecutive season of the annual Holiday countdown to Christmas highlighting special moments in Husky Athletics history. Our segment is meant to bring positive thoughts of our favorite university during a time of the year where thanks and reflection are at the forefront of our minds.  This year’s version will feature 25 random and exciting moments, in no particular order or ranking of importance.

2 DAYS ‘TIL CHRISTMAS

The 1998 Washington Huskies Football team orchestrated one of the best game-winning touchdowns in program history while playing #8 Arizona State down in the desert.

It was a road season opener for the #18 Huskies and they came into this game in rebuilding mode. Having lost 12 guys to the NFL from the previous year’s 8-4 disappointment, the big bright spot was the return of quarterback Brock Huard.

With the Huskies facing a 38-35 deficit late in the game, Huard went back to pass and found tight end Reggie Davis, who exploded down the sideline and scored a 67-yard touchdown, with 28 seconds to go.

The whole Huskies bench was going crazy and Washington would win the game 42-38 in epic fashion. Huard finished the game passing for 321 yards on 27 of 47 passing, with four touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Moments after one of the most remarkable college football finishes in years, Huard broke into tears with pure joy and excitement at what his team had just pulled off.  “The greatest game I’ve ever been a part of,” he said.

This “Miracle In the Desert” game was the last great win under Washington head coach Jim Lambright. Nobody knew that this would end up being Lambright’s final season as head coach.
