Counting down “The 25 Days of Husky Christmas”…..

“DubLife” is doing its third consecutive season of the annual Holiday countdown to Christmas highlighting special moments in Husky Athletics history. Our segment is meant to bring positive thoughts of our favorite university during a time of the year where thanks and reflection are at the forefront of our minds. This year’s version will feature 25 random and exciting moments, in no particular order or ranking of importance.

18 DAYS ‘TIL CHRISTMAS

The 2010 Washington Huskies Football team had just earned their first bowl game appearance since the 2002 season where they competed in the Sun Bowl.

Washington came into the 2010 Holiday Bowl unranked and was set to face the #17 Nebraska Cornhuskers, looking to avenge their 56-21 defeat earlier in the season at Husky Stadium to Nebraska, who was ranked #8 at the time.

Riding the momentum from their Apple Cup victory, the Huskies came out to an early 10-0 lead on the Cornhuskers and they clearly set the tone from the outstart.

In this rematch, Washington eliminated Nebraska’s big plays. They contained Cornhuskers quarterback Taylor Martinez. They played virtually mistake-free en route to a stunning 19-7 upset victory. It was a huge win and program defining moment in the Steve Sarkisian era.

Their Holiday Bowl performance was a golden oldie from the Don James Signature Collection (who was in attendance) — a turn-back-the-clock night reminiscent of long ago wins in Pasadena and Miami. Washington hit harder and played smarter than Nebraska.
