“The 25 Days Of Husky Christmas” – 12 Days ‘Til

Counting down “The 25 Days of Husky Christmas”…..

“DubLife” is doing its third consecutive season of the annual Holiday countdown to Christmas highlighting special moments in Husky Athletics history. Our segment is meant to bring positive thoughts of our favorite university during a time of the year where thanks and reflection are at the forefront of our minds.  This year’s version will feature 25 random and exciting moments, in no particular order or ranking of importance.

12 DAYS ‘TIL CHRISTMAS

The 1991 Washington Huskies Football team entered Berkeley’s Memorial Stadium expecting to dictate their style of play over the #7 California Golden Bears.

In a street fight of a game, matching a pair of unbeaten teams, third-ranked Washington held off seventh-ranked California, 24-17.

Washington took a 17-10 lead just before halftime on a nine-yard run by Jay Berry, ending a drive that was aided by a late hit penalty.

With the game on the line, Husky RB Beno Bryant broke loose for a 65-yard TD run early in the fourth quarter and gave the Huskies the lead. He would finish with 99 yards on 12 carries, despite battling a cold.

The game went down to the very last play and Huskies cornerback Walter Bailey tipped a Cal pass away, finally ending the game.

It was the Huskies closest game of their National Championship season. “They were good, and they played us great,” Washington head coach Don James said.
