Counting down “The 25 Days of Husky Christmas”…..
“DubLife” is doing its third consecutive season of the annual Holiday countdown to Christmas highlighting special moments in Husky Athletics history. Our segment is meant to bring positive thoughts of our favorite university during a time of the year where thanks and reflection are at the forefront of our minds. This year’s version will feature 25 random and exciting moments, in no particular order or ranking of importance.
11 DAYS ‘TIL CHRISTMAS
The 2000 Washington Huskies Football team was ranked #15 in the nation and pulled off the 34-29 upset victory over the #4 Miami Hurricanes at Husky Stadium.
Almost all analysts believed that Rick Neuheisel‘s Huskies could not match Miami’s skill or neutralize its substantial speed, but Washington showed the ability to do so, with stealing the Hurricanes’ trademark swagger.
“Miami came in here talking a little bit of trash, not really having the respect for us that they should have. I think we came out and hit them in the mouth, and said, that’s how Huskies play football. I don’t think they were ready for us to be as physical,” Washington tight end Jerramy Stevens said.
Stevens was dominant in the passing game and led the Huskies with seven catches, for 89 yards and a touchdown.
On defense, the Huskies mauled Miami’s sophomore quarterback Ken Dorsey with physical play throughout almost the entire game. The Huskies forced three fumbles and sacked Dorsey three times as well.
The victory was the first time Washington had defeated a top-five team at home since a 31-0 victory over the #5 USC Trojans back in 1990.
