Stewart Shines Again During Huskies 73-59 Win Over Pistoia

PISTOIA, Italy – Junior Nahziah Carter recorded a double-double while freshman Isaiah Stewart added another 20-point scoring night to help UW go 3-0 over in Italy Sunday night with a 73-59 victory over Pistoia. Washington has one more game on its Italian tour which will take place Tuesday against Siena at 10 a.m. PT.
 
“Tonight was a tougher test for us and I was pleased to see how we responded to a closer game,” said head coach Mike Hopkins. “We continued to use our man defense at some points in the game to get more experience with it and we are getting more comfortable with it.
 
Carter once again got off to a quick start scoring eight of his 17 points in the first quarter. He finished with 10 rebounds, which are his most out of the three games so far. Additionally, Stewart recorded his second-straight 20-point night as he led the squad with 25 points and added nine rebounds.
 
Sunday’s match up was a much closer contest than the Huskies’ previous two outings with Pistoia getting as close as five points and even cutting the UW lead to 10 points with just 1:38 remaining in the fourth quarter.
 
Other standouts for the Dawgs were redshirt freshman Nate Roberts who pulled down nine rebounds for the third-straight game all in the second half. Sophomore Elijah Hardy dished out five assists while Jamal Bey added four assists and eight points. Junior Hameir Wright also pulled down seven rebounds.
