SEATTLE – University of Washington junior Jamal Bey has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week for after helping lead the Huskies to two wins over Colorado and Utah, the league announced on Monday. This is the first league honor for the Bey and the first Player of the Week recognition for a Dawg since Matisse Thybulle earned it on Feb. 25, 2019.
Bey not only had a career week but he was extremely efficient averaging 21.0 points while shooting 78.9 percent from the field (15-of-19), 85.7 percent from 3 (6-of-7) and 85.7 percent from the free throw line (6-of-7).
Most recently against Utah, Bey was nearly perfect as he scored a career-high 29 points on 10-of-11 shooting from the field. It was the most points scored by a Husky this season and included a 4-of-4 mark from 3-point range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. He was key in the Huskies’ close victory pulling down five rebounds and adding four steals, with one of those steals and rebounds coming in the final 40 seconds to help seal the UW victory.
Earlier in the week against the Buffs, Bey scored 14 points on just eight shots from the field, going 5-of-8 and 2-of-3 from long distance. He also added three rebounds and two blocks. On the week as a whole, Bey had just one turnover. The junior has not scored in double-figures in five of the last six games for the Huskies.
Washington next faces Washington State on Sunday, Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. in the Boeing Apple Cup Series at Alaska Airlines Arena.
