Husky Football Fall Camp 2021 – Day 14: Fan Fest Scrimmage Recap

It was a fun day for Husky fans to get back into Husky Stadium and watch their beloved team take the field.  The annual Fan Fest event took place for fans to win prizes, play on the East Practice Field and watch a scrimmage.

The offense shined throughout the entire scrimmage as they were able to move the ball down the field consistently and put points up on the board.  In the end, the offense came away with a 34-17 victory on their point-simulated scrimmage.

In the end, there were two players on offense that really stood out with their performances.  Those players were starting quarterback Dylan Morris and wide receiver Taj Davis.

Unofficially, Morris was around 17 for 26 with completions, over 210 yards roughly, 2 passing touchdowns, and a rushing score as well.  He looked in full command of the offense and threw some darts down the field.

Davis was absolutely phenomenal in taking over for injured wide receiver Jalen McMillan.  He amassed 13 catches for roughly 183 yards and made big catches all day long.  He looks poised to be a major threat in the offense for the Huskies this season.

“We always talk about, practice execution becomes game reality.  He was doing it in practice, doing it in practice. It showed up in the spring game. He’s been doing it in practice in training camp, and now he shows up in one of our biggest scrimmages of this training camp. Just like everyone, he’s still got things to improve on. But it’s awesome seeing Taj take the next step in his game,” Washington head coach Jimmy Lake said about WR Taj Davis.

Husky true freshman quarterback Sam Huard had some nice plays of his own today and managed a long drive while executing the offense at a high level.  He finished around 17 of 32 completions, 225-plus yards.  He threw a beautiful 16-yard fade route touchdown to WR Sawyer Racanelli who muscled the ball away from defensive back Asa Turner.  Husky fans got a good glimpse of the future with what Huard showed today.

The defense had their moments too, as they were able to get pressure on the quarterback and convert sacks.  Some defensive starters played minimal minutes to safeguard against injuries.

Overall, it was a good camp for the offense, which has shown signs of life and continuity in year two under offensive coordinator John Donovan. After today’s simulated scrimmage, Husky fans have a reason for optimism with the direction and where this Husky offense may be heading.

Today was the final open practice to the media for Fall Camp as the Huskies will be ramping up for their season opener on Saturday, September 4th against the Montana Grizzlies.
