Per the University of Washington Press Release…
SEATTLE – Four Huskies scored in double figures, led by graduate transfer Terrell Brown Jr.’s 17 points, to lead Washington to an 83-50 victory in an exhibition game Thursday at Alaska Airlines Arena.
Emmitt Matthews Jr. added 12 points, and Jamal Bey and Daejon Davis each chipped in 10 points. In all, 11 Huskies scored.
Washington held a 29-17 halftime advantage and turned up its defensive pressure to create multiple turnovers and easy bucket to run away from the visiting Wildcats.
CWU’s Xavier Smith buried a three-pointer with 19:05 to play in the second half to make it a 10-point game, 30-20. The shot seemed to set off a fuse for the Huskies as they went into a full-court press and ran away from the Wildcats.
Davis went on a five-point run himself, hitting a jumper and stealing the inbounds pass, which eventually led him to a contested three, which he buried.
The Huskies continued to press and forced four more turnovers which led to eight-straight Husky points.
Washington would go on to outscore Central 54-33 in the second half and cruised to a 33-point victory.
UW opened the game with the first six points – all from newcomers Matthews and Brown. Brown buried a three and Matthews energized the crowd with a breakaway dunk where he was fouled on the play.
Central Washington would outscore the Huskies 10-2, forcing UW coach Mike Hopkins to call a timeout, a move that seemingly re-energized his team.
UW would go on a 13-0 run and outscored the Wildcats 21-3 for an almost 10-minute stretch to open a 29-13 lead before CWU ended the half with the final four points.
Washington tips it off for real next Tuesday, Nov. 9 against Northern Illinois at 7:00 p.m. at Alaska Airlines Arena.
