LOS ANGELES – Jamal Bey posted the first double-double of his collegiate career, as the Washington men’s basketball team concluded their trip to Southern California with a 76-50 loss to No. 13 UCLA at Pauley Pavilion Saturday night.
The Huskies held an early 6-0 lead, as the Bruins started 0-8 from the field and didn’t record a field goal for the game’s first five minutes. Bey keyed the early action, opening the scoring with a jumper and blocking a UCLA three-point attempt.
UCLA took the lead just before the under-12 timeout on a three-pointer from David Singleton. He finished with career highs in points (22) and three-pointers made (six).
The Huskies continued to battle, as Bey scored on back-to-back possessions and kept the margin at three. After Terrell Brown Jr.hit a jump shot to cut the UCLA lead to 5, the Bruins began the scoring run that would stretch into the second half and give them some distance. They ended the first half on an 11-4 run, and kicked off the second frame in similar fashion, extending the lead to as much as 35.
Bey finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds in his 34 minutes of action. Brown Jr. (13, to lead the Huskies) and PJ Fuller (10) joined him in double figures.
