Huskies Destroy Siena 97-39 In Italian Tour Finale

SIENA, Italy – Junior Nahziah Carter recorded his second-straight double to help the Huskies finish their Italy Tour with a commanding 97-39 victory over Siena Tuesday night. Washington won all four of their games while in Italy by an average of 44.0 points.
 
“This has been a great experience for our team during the last week and a half,” said head coach Mike Hopkins. “We learned a lot, got to experiment with our offense and defense, lineups and get some quality reps in during these four games.”
 
Carter finished with a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds with five made from 3-point range. Twelve of his points came in the third quarter was Washington jumped out to a 72-25 lead with three minutes left in the quarter. The guard averaged 18.3 points and eight rebounds during the Dawgs’ four games.
 
Freshman Isaiah Stewart also registered a double-double as he posted 13 points and pulled down 12 rebounds. During the Italy trip, Stewart averaged a double-double at 19.5 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The game was close through the first quarter and beginning of the second as Siena pulled with in four at 24-20 with eight minutes remaining in that quarter. Washington then went on a 24-3 run to take a 48-23 lead at half time.
 
They picked up right where they left off in the third quarter opening with a 24-2 run over seven minutes, not letting Siena score a field goal until the 2:29 mark. Siena was held to just three made field goals during the third quarter.
 
Freshman Marcus Tsohonis led the Huskies in assists with six, his most in a game this trip and added 12 points while sophomore Jamal Bey scored 16. Redshirt freshman Nate Roberts pulled down 11 rebounds while junior Hameir Wrightadded seven boards.Washington returns to the states on Thursday after 10 days in Italy experiencing Rome and Florence, touring the Vatican, the Colosseum, the Duomo in Florence, taking a cooking class in Tuscany and many other great cultural experiences together.
