– The weather was sunny, windy and hot.
– The length of the practice was approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes.
NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS
– The team practiced with no pads today while wearing shorts, helmets and jerseys and focused a lot on kickoff and punt coverages.
– Today’s practice was a typical Chris Petersen practice with a focus on fundamentals and technique.
– Today’s 11 on 11 sessions consisted of a lot of shuffling in and out of players on the 1st and 2nd units.
– Drill work included punt coverages, punt returns, kickoff returns, 7 on 7, 11 on 11, special teams, coverages and FG kicking.
– The QB group worked on backside throws, footwork and sideline throws. Jacob Eason was often flushed out of the pocket but threw the ball consistently. Jake Haener had some nice tuck and read throws. Jacob Sirmon had some nice decisive throws down the field. Dylan Morris is fast on the scramble and made some nice one arm throws. Overall this group looked like they had more command today.
– During the 11 on 11 session the First Team Offense consisted primarily of Nick Harris, Luke Wattenberg, Ty Jones, Trey Adams, Salvon Ahmed, Jake Haener, Jared Hilbers, Hunter Bryant, Andre Baccellia, Aaron Fuller, Jaxson Kirkland. Cade Otton, Terrell Bynum and Chico McClatcher rotated in with this group.
– During the 11 on 11 session the First Team Defense consisted primarily of Myles Bryant, Kyler Manu, Brandon Wellington, Cameron Williams, Levi Onwuzurike, Elijah Molden, Keith Taylor, Benning Potoa’e, Joe Tryon, Ryan Bowman, Tuli Letuligasenoa. – DB Julius Irvin was seen on kickoff coverage.
– Both placekickers Peyton Henry and Tim Horn made and missed a couple field goals from 30-35 yard range at the end of practice.
– TE Hunter Bryant looks very healthy and has explosion and power on his routes. He has sure hands when catching the ball
– The new turf on the East Practice Field is extremely spongy and soft. Must be nice on the players legs.
– The defensive line has some promising young talent. It is definitely a position of intrigue as to who will emerge as starters from that group.
– Brandon Wellington looks healthy and is flying around the football during practice. He seems to be embracing the role.
– QB Jacob Sirmon looked more confident today and had some good throws down the field.
– OLB Zion Tupuola-Fetui is a nice combination of speed and power and should make a case for massive playing time this season.
– The pass rush looks much improved thus far with a lot of potential with guys coming off the edge quicker than last season.
– DB Cameron Williams looks like the real deal in the secondary as a true freshman. He is definitely making his case.
– LB Edefuan Ulofoshio is getting work on special teams and is an explosive hard hitting player with speed as well.
– The QB competition will probably go on for a couple weeks with Jacob Eason and Jake Haener getting extensive reps with both the 1st and 2nd units.
