This was a gut-wrenching loss for the Washington Football Program! This game was extremely winnable by the Huskies, as they were up double digits in the fourth quarter. What ensued was 21 unanswered points by the Sun Devils, before the Huskies answered with an academic touchdown at the end.
In a rare set of circumstances, UW will mark the third-straight team ASU will play without the head coach that started the season at the helm as Washington’s Jimmy Lake has been suspended following an incident in last weekend’s game against the Ducks. ASU is coming off games against Washington State (Nick Rolovich let go due to COVID-19 state legislation) and USC (Clay Helton let go after loss to Stanford in Week 2).
Any way you slice it, this is not a great look for the University of Washington, its football program, and Coach Lake himself. This is not the type of incident and footage you want your rivals to use against you on the recruiting trail.
When Lake made this hire back in January of 2020, many saw his addition as a curious one, boasting only average to subpar success during his time as an actual offensive coordinator in previous stints.
This was a very winnable game for the Huskies if they had taken advantage of field position and offensive opportunities early in the first half but it got away from them. With three games left to play and two wins to become bowl eligible, it is a roll of the dice at this point, if they can get it done.
