The Washington Men’s Basketball team got some clarity this week after senior guard Nahziah Carter and head coach Mike Hopkins met together.
“Earlier this week, Nahziah and I spoke to discuss his status as a member of our men’s basketball program,” Hopkins said in the release. “In that conversation, he informed me that he will be leaving to pursue a professional basketball career. I am in agreement that this step forward can provide an opportunity for Nahziah’s growth and development.”
Carter announced earlier today via his Twitter account, and he thanked Coach Hopkins and the University of Washington for his time spent with the Huskies.
Last season, the 6-foot-6 guard averaged 12.2 points, 4.9 rebounds and started in every single game, except for one.
Back in October, the Huskies announced that Carter was suspended from team activities after violating the school’s Intercollegiate Athletics student code of conduct.
During the last couple of months, Hopkins held out hope that Carter may return to the team at some point this season, but everything was up in the air.
Carter will be remembered as a freak athlete, who could fly through the air and finish the break with some jaw-dropping dazzling slam dunks.
It has been clearly evident that the Huskies have missed Carter’s presence this season, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
After last season, Carter was contemplating leaving for the NBA Draft but decided to return to Washington for his final season.
NAHZIAH CARTER TWITTER ANNOUNCEMENT
After much prayer and conversation with my family. I have decided to leave the University of Washington and pursue my professional career. Coach Hopkins and the University of Washington has brought out the best in me. For that I will forever be thankful. Forever a Husky!
