As many expected before last season even began, true freshman forward Jaden McDaniels has announced his intentions to enter the 2020 NBA Draft.
McDaniels is a local hoops star from Federal Way High School, who came to the University of Washington with high expectations and hype.
The 6’9″ forward was a part time starter and also came off the bench for Washington head coach Mike Hopkins, while trying to find his niche.
“We were so lucky to have Jaden as a Husky this year. He gave everything to this University and our program. Jaden chose to stay home and play for his home team. He believed in us and put on for his city. I couldn’t be prouder of the player and man he has become. He grew so much and his best days are ahead of him. Our ultimate goal is to help our players reach their dreams, and to see Jaden’s dreams become reality is really fulfilling for our staff. Jaden’s future is so bright and we’re so excited to see what his next chapter looks like. He’ll be a part of the Husky family forever,” Hopkins said.
He averaged 13.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Huskies during his freshman campaign, while acclimating to the college game.
The former high school McDonald’s All-American has a ton of untapped potential and NBA teams are hoping to tap into that talent reservoir.
McDaniels’ freshman teammate, Isaiah Stewart also declared for the 2020 recently, as both players were always on the radar of NBA general managers.
The Huskies will look to replace the talent and production of their one-and-done products, who were highly touted recruits for Hopkins and staff.
