While the 2020 NFL Draft had some Husky names highlighted on the draft boards, others still achieved their opportunity to play in the NFL.
Sometime after the draft, Husky defensive lineman Benning Potoa’e signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he will join former Husky defensive lineman star Vita Vea.
Potoa’e switched back and forth between the defensive line and also the outside linebacker position, as the Husky coaches were trying to find out where to maximize his potential the best during his career.
He played in all 13 games during his senior season, starting in four of those games and earned Pro Football Focus All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention. Potoa’e also won the Iron Husky Award at the Huskies’ postseason awards banquet.
During the first game of last season, Potoa’e was the inaugural winner of the Pac-12 Defensive Lineman of the Week award following a fantastic performance against Eastern Washington.
Potoa’e is from DuPont, Washington and was a local star at Lakes High School in Tacoma, Washington before joining the Washington Huskies.
