NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Washington senior linebacker Ben Burr-Kirven will be among football’s who’s who this weekend as the winner of the 15th Annual Lott IMPACT Trophy will be announced on Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach, Calif. The Pat Tillman Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and Pac-12 Football Scholar Athlete of the Year is among four finalists for the prestigious award, joining Josh Allen of Kentucky, Ben Humphreys of Duke, and Christian Wilkins of Clemson for the black-tie event that will commence at 5:00 p.m. (PT). Burr-Kirven finished the regular season as the NCAA-FBS leader with 165 tackles and tied for sixth in the nation with four forced fumbles. The senior linebacker’s tackle total is 97 more than second on the team (Tevis Barlett, 68). He has also recovered three fumbles, recorded six pass breakups and picked-off two passes to anchor a Husky defense that led the Pac-12 and was 12th in the nation in total defense (301.8 yards allowed per game), led the Pac-12 in pass defense (185.4 yards allowed per game), and finished second in rush defense (116.4 yards allowed per game).
Off the field, Burr-Kirven boasts a 3.69 grade point average in comparative literature (cinema studies) and is a three-time member of both the CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 All-American team and All-Pac-12 Academic First Team. He is the first player in Pac-12 history to be awarded both Player and Scholar Athlete of the Year honors.
The nominees represent the qualities embodied by Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott – Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
The Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation will make a $25,000 donation to the general scholarship fund of the winner’s university and $5,000 to each of the schools of the runners-up. In 14 years, the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation has now donated more than $1.5 million, including nearly $650,000 to universities throughout the country.
