Nowell averaged 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds while shooting 54.8 percent from the field in Washington’s week that saw them fall in the last second at No. 1 Gonzaga, 81-79 and pick up a 70-62 victory over Seattle U at home.
Against the Zags, Nowell recorded his third 20-point scoring effort of the season with a game-high tying 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting. He was perfect from the FT line, going 4-of-4, and added six assists.
He followed up that performance with a team-high 18 points and tied his career high with nine rebounds against Seattle U. Nowell shot 7-of-13 and dished out three assists. He has now shot 50 percent or better in 21 of his 44 career games and in seven of 10 games this season, including the last three.
Nowell is leading the team in scoring at 18.8 points per game this season while shooting 56.9 percent from the field. Out of the 20 current candidates for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award, Nowell has the highest FG percentage. He’s also upped his 3-point FG shooting to 44.1 from 35.1 a year ago.
Washington next faces No. 13 Virginia Tech on Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Basketball Hall of Fame Boardwalk Classic in Atlantic City.
